Teams officially qualify for the Champions League Round of 16
As of January 29, 2025, the UEFA Champions League has introduced a new format, replacing the traditional group stage with a single league phase comprising 36 teams. In this system, each team plays eight matches against varied opponents, and the top eight teams automatically advance to the Round of 16. Teams placed 9th to 24th enter a two-legged playoff to secure their spots in the Round of 16, while those finishing 25th to 36th are eliminated from European competition.
Liverpool and Barcelona have already secured their places in the Round of 16 by finishing in the top eight.
Several other teams are poised to confirm their advancement, depending on the outcomes of the final round of matches. Arsenal and Aston Villa are close to qualifying, with Arsenal needing only to avoid a significant loss and Aston Villa requiring a win against Celtic and favorable results elsewhere. Manchester City must win against Club Brugge to ensure at least a playoff spot.
