President John Dramani Mahama has officially pardoned Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, following the controversy surrounding a viral video in which Gyamfi was seen handing U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The incident sparked public outcry and calls for disciplinary action. In response, Gyamfi issued a public apology, expressing regret for what he described as an act of kindness that was never intended for public attention.
After a meeting with Gyamfi, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, cautioned him and emphasized the importance of adhering to public expectations and ethical standards. Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that the Presidency considers the matter resolved, with no further action deemed necessary beyond the apology and caution.
Nana Agradaa has also announced her intention to return the $800 gift, expressing concern over the potential impact on Gyamfi’s career.
