Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has officially announced that he is stepping away from politics to focus on his humanitarian efforts. Gyan, who had previously been affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and even supported Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, stated that he no longer wants to be associated with any political party.

Instead, he intends to dedicate his energy towards youth empowerment and community support through projects like the Asamoah Gyan Foundation. Gyan emphasized that he feels he hasn’t done enough for the youth and wants to use his platform to make a positive impact, particularly in sports and education. His decision comes ahead of Ghana’s December 2024 elections, where he wished all parties a peaceful process.

This shift marks a significant step for the football legend, who previously played a visible role in politics but now plans to focus on giving back to society through non-political means

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, recently announced his decision to step back from politics in a statement shared on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). Gyan expressed regret over his political involvement, stating that by aligning with a political party, he had not been fair to the youth of Ghana. He will now focus his efforts on empowering the youth through the **Asamoah Gyan Foundation** and other humanitarian work, aiming to make a non-partisan impact on the country.

Earlier in the year, Gyan was named the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He had also participated in political events, including a campaign walk in Akropong. However, his statement emphasizes that moving forward, he will not be affiliated with any political party and will work independently to support the youth and broader community.

He concluded his statement by wishing all political parties well in the upcoming December 2024 elections and reaffirmed his commitment to helping Ghana’s youth without political ties
