On Monday, September 9, 2024, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), officially submitted the presidential nomination forms for the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) office. The submission included all legally required documents such as a tax clearance certificate, a declaration from the audit service in compliance with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, and a banker’s draft for the filing fees.
Nketia praised the EC for making the forms available online, which eliminated the need to physically collect them. Alongside the presidential nomination, Nketia also presented forms and banker’s drafts for the filing fees of 276 NDC parliamentary candidates across the country, ensuring the EC’s district offices were aware that additional payments should not be requested from their candidates.
He expressed optimism regarding Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mahama’s running mate, potentially becoming the first female vice president of Ghana. He concluded by awaiting confirmation from the EC that the NDC had met all legal requirements
